Hon. Aderemi Oseni, the lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has paid glowing tribute to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, describing him as a visionary leader who redefined governance through courage, innovation, and unwavering commitment to development.

In a statement released in Ibadan on Wednesday, to mark the fifth anniversary of Senator Ajimobi’s passing, Oseni lauded the former governor’s legacy, which he said continues to shape Oyo State’s political and infrastructural landscape.

“Though five years have passed, the legacy of Senator Abiola Ajimobi remains vivid and deeply influential,” Oseni stated. “He was a trailblazer who broke barriers and introduced a new paradigm in governance. His intellectual capacity, strategic boldness, and infrastructural strides were unmatched in the history of our state.”

Senator Ajimobi, who governed Oyo State from 2011 to 2019, holds the distinction of being the first governor in the state’s history to be re-elected—a feat Oseni described as a testament to the public’s faith in his reform-oriented leadership.

“His administration implemented bold reforms across critical sectors—security, education, urban renewal, and the civil service,” Oseni noted. “He made tough, necessary decisions where others hesitated. Today, many of the roads, institutions, and governance models we benefit from are rooted in his foresight.”

Beyond governance, Hon. Oseni praised Ajimobi’s political ethos, emphasizing his principled and issue-based approach. “He was not just a governor; he was a mentor, a masterful orator, and a proud custodian of Yoruba heritage,” he said. “Within and beyond the APC, he nurtured many leaders who continue to carry forward his legacy.”

Reflecting on the late governor’s leadership style, Oseni added, “Ajimobi’s politics was driven by respect, clarity, and results. His passing was not only a personal loss to many of us, but a national one.”

He concluded with a call to action for present and future leaders: “Senator Ajimobi set a high standard for public service. As we remember him today, let us recommit ourselves to visionary, people-centered governance. Let us lead with integrity and innovation.”

The Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has praised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a bold and reform-oriented administration, laying a strong foundation for Nigeria’s long-term growth and development.

In a statement issued on Thursday through his media aides, Oseni—who represents the Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency of Oyo State—stated that President Tinubu’s two years in office have been characterized by transformative policies that have redefined Nigeria’s economic direction, restored investor confidence, and improved the federal government’s fiscal position.

He identified the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates as the most impactful reforms to date, noting that these measures have significantly enhanced government revenues, with over ₦9.1 trillion generated in the first half of 2024—more than double the amount recorded in the same period in 2023.

Oseni also lauded the federal government’s successful clearance of a $5 billion backlog in foreign exchange obligations, a move he said has contributed to naira stabilization, increased foreign investment, and strengthened trust in Nigeria’s financial system.

On infrastructure, he described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway as transformative projects poised to enhance interstate commerce, improve logistics, and generate employment across 16 states. He added that FERMA has received renewed federal backing for road maintenance under Tinubu’s leadership.

Oseni further highlighted the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery and an increase in oil production to 1.61 million barrels per day as key milestones that will reduce fuel import dependency and bolster Nigeria’s energy security.

In the area of national security, Oseni noted significant progress, citing the rescue of over 4,600 kidnapped victims and the neutralization of more than 9,000 terrorists and criminal elements. He also commended the establishment of the 2,200-strong Mines Marshal Corps aimed at curbing illegal mining and safeguarding natural resources.

He applauded the administration’s inclusive economic efforts, including the disbursement of ₦50 billion in nano-grants to small businesses and the launch of a ₦200 billion consumer credit scheme to expand access to essential goods and services.

Oseni also welcomed the introduction of the Student Loan Scheme, with ₦95.6 billion approved for tertiary students, as well as the government’s agricultural initiatives, such as the ₦100 billion National Agricultural Development Fund and a dry season farming program covering 500,000 hectares.

Calling for public support for the Tinubu administration, Oseni emphasized that “real reform takes time.” He concluded: “This government is laying the groundwork for a prosperous future. The results may not all be immediate, but the direction is right and the foundation is strong.”
