The lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has launched the Remi Asoludero Food Bank and Asoludero Market to support vulnerable residents in Oyo State.
The initiative is aimed at providing sustainable food support for widows, the elderly, orphans, and persons living with disabilities, while also offering subsidised food items to cushion the effects of rising food prices.
The launch event, held on Saturday, attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including persons living with disabilities, religious leaders, community heads, and representatives of non-governmental organisations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oseni described the project as a strategic intervention designed to combat hunger and improve the welfare of vulnerable groups within and beyond his constituency.
“Today marks a transition from occasional help to sustainable impact. The vision is simple: no one in our community should go to bed hungry,” he said.
He explained that the initiative represents a shift from short-term assistance to a structured and sustainable support system. According to him, his commitment to humanitarian service predates his political career, noting that he has spent over 15 years impacting lives through the Remi Oseni Foundation.
The lawmaker highlighted the foundation’s contributions, including sponsoring postgraduate scholarships, empowering women with skills and funding, supporting faith-based organisations, covering medical expenses, and providing relief to widows and other vulnerable individuals.
Oseni emphasised that the food bank initiative is non-political, non-religious, and non-tribal, stressing that it is solely focused on serving humanity. He added that beneficiaries would receive periodic food support based on their needs, while those with severe physical challenges may benefit from extended or lifetime assistance.
He also aligned the initiative with the welfare-focused policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and urged programme coordinators to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability in its implementation.
A beneficiary, Akinbola Omolola Kasarat, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker, describing the initiative as timely and impactful. She noted that many struggling families would benefit from the programme, which would help ease hardship and restore hope.
Kasarat also called on other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture, assuring that beneficiaries would make proper use of the support.
Earlier, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and former Chairman of the party in Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya, commended Oseni for his performance and humanitarian commitment.
He urged other political office holders and individuals to emulate the initiative in improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens.
