The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has dismissed reports suggesting that it has adopted a governorship candidate for the 2027 general election, describing the claims as speculative and misleading.

Some national and online media platforms had earlier reported that certain individuals had been selected as consensus governorship candidates of the party in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states. However, the reports failed to disclose the identities of the alleged candidates or the basis for their selection.

In a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday, the Oyo State APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, urged party members and supporters to remain calm, assuring that due process would be followed at the appropriate time.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we have no knowledge of any individual’s ambition as far as the 2027 elections are concerned. Our party has not started receiving letters of intent from interested aspirants because it is not yet time,” he said.

Sadare emphasized that the party remains committed to constitutional and democratic principles, in line with the nation’s Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the APC constitution.

“We do not put the cart before the horse. We understand the political terrain and will not engage in any action capable of undermining democracy,” he added.

He urged the public to disregard the report, stressing that it did not originate from the party.

The APC spokesman further noted that the party is currently focused on completing its congresses ahead of the national convention scheduled to hold in Abuja.

He assured that all qualified party members interested in contesting elective positions in 2027 would be given equal opportunity.

“Eligible and competent members of our party who intend to vie for political office will have a fair chance to pursue their ambitions. We remain committed to presenting candidates who will serve the best interests of the people and deliver on their promises,” Sadare stated.
