Engr. Aderemi Oseni, Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and representative for the Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in Oyo State, has expressed his sympathy for the traders affected by the recent fire at Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, ravaged parts of the busy market, destroying goods worth millions of naira. While the cause of the fire remains unclear, the scale of the devastation has garnered widespread sympathy from political leaders, business figures, and the public.

In a statement released by his media personnel, Akinmuyiwa Williams, in Ibadan, Oseni described the incident as a tragic blow to the hardworking traders who depend on the market for their livelihoods. He called on government agencies at all levels to take swift action and assist the victims in restoring their businesses.

“I stand with the traders and entrepreneurs of Aleshinloye Market during this challenging time. This disaster highlights the urgent need for stronger fire safety measures in our markets. I urge both the Oyo State Government and federal agencies to provide immediate relief and long-term solutions to aid those affected,” he stated.

Oseni also underscored the need for proactive disaster management, advocating for the installation of modern fire prevention infrastructure in key markets throughout the state. He further called on individuals, corporate organizations, and relevant authorities to extend support to the affected traders.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for policies that protect small business owners from unexpected disasters, emphasizing the importance of a collective approach to safeguarding the economic well-being of traders and artisans.

Tinubu’s Road Revolution Visible Nationwide, Opposition Blind to Progress — FERMA Chair, Oseni

Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and representative for Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in Oyo State, Engineer Aderemi Oseni, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its steadfast commitment to infrastructural development, particularly in the area of road rehabilitation and reconstruction across Nigeria.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos on Thursday, Oseni characterized the president’s investment in the nation’s road networks as a strategic initiative aimed at transforming Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure and bolstering economic growth. Drawing from his extensive travels nationwide in his supervisory capacity at FERMA, he attested to the tangible progress achieved under the current administration.

“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is laying a solid foundation for a redefined Nigeria poised to lead Africa’s future,” Oseni stated. “We have witnessed substantial rehabilitation and reconstruction of federal roads across both the northern and southern regions, including major projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, and the Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Benin Highway.”

He further noted that enhanced operational efficiency and increased budgetary allocations have empowered FERMA to effectively tackle Nigeria’s longstanding road infrastructure challenges. “These efforts underscore the administration’s firm belief that an efficient transportation system is the cornerstone of a thriving economy,” he added.

While acknowledging these achievements, Oseni expressed concern that opposition parties have overlooked the progress under President Tinubu’s government. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against forces that may seek to undermine these developments. Additionally, he announced the formation of the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF), a non-partisan and non-ethnic platform dedicated to rallying support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

According to Oseni, ROCOF currently boasts over 200,000 members across Oyo State, all committed to advancing good governance, justice, and sustainable development. “Our goal in the South-West region is to achieve a voter turnout of at least 75 percent and to ensure the APC secures no fewer than 10 million votes in the forthcoming presidential election,” he affirmed.

He also highlighted the critical importance of continuous voter registration and civic education, aiming to improve upon the 26.72 percent voter turnout recorded in the 2023 general elections. “Our journey toward 2027 is already underway, and we are resolute in changing the narrative by encouraging citizens to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and exercise their civic duties,” Oseni emphasized.

Regarding his political future, Oseni hinted at a potential governorship bid, stating, “I am considering succeeding Governor Seyi Makinde, should it be the will of Almighty God and my party, the APC. However, this is not a do-or-die situation; the governorship race will be approached with dialogue and strategic planning, and I will respect the party’s decision.”

President Tinubu’s NELFUND a Game-Changer – Hon Oseni

Published

on

The lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency of Oyo State and Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has lauded the newly launched Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a transformative initiative for the future of Nigerian youths.

Speaking at a grassroots stakeholders’ engagement over the weekend in Erinkojaobe/Owode community, Ibadan, Hon. Oseni commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he termed a bold and visionary step toward eliminating financial barriers that hinder many brilliant but underprivileged students from accessing tertiary education.

“The student loan scheme is a game-changer,” Oseni remarked. “It reflects the President’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and the long-term development of our nation.”

Reflecting on his personal journey, Hon. Oseni shared how he benefitted from the late Chief Bola Ige’s free education policy in the old Oyo State, launched in 1979. According to him, that opportunity altered the course of his life.

“I had already made plans to travel to Lagos to learn meat trading,” he recounted. “But God, through Chief Bola Ige’s free education programme, changed my story. I was enrolled at Akufo Community Secondary School without paying a single kobo. That access to education paved the way for me to become an engineer.”

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Oseni stated that his experiences continue to fuel his commitment to education and grassroots development—an ethos that predates his time in office.

According to a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Idowu Ayodele, the Remi Oseni Education Support Scheme has so far provided tangible support to no fewer than 1,053 indigent but academically gifted students through free West African Examinations Council (WAEC) registration since 2024. An additional 1,206 students have received support for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.

“This year alone, the scheme extended support to students in Igbeti, where WAEC fees were fully paid for about 200 candidates. Many of these students have already passed their examinations and secured admission into tertiary institutions,” the statement noted.

Beyond exam sponsorships, the scheme offers scholarships, bursaries, and tuition assistance to students in higher institutions across Oyo State. Hon. Oseni has also personally funded the renovation of schools, facilitated the construction of new classroom blocks, and distributed essential educational materials.

“Without God and education, I would not be where I am today,” Oseni emphasized. “That is why education remains at the heart of my constituency projects. It is the most enduring legacy we can leave for the next generation.”

As NELFUND continues to gain momentum—with over 500,000 applications already processed from the 600,000 students who have registered—Hon. Oseni expressed confidence that the initiative will serve as a critical lifeline for thousands of young Nigerians striving to further their education.

“President Tinubu has shown a deep commitment to building a knowledge-based economy,” he concluded. “As someone who has lived the transformative power of education, I assure my constituents that more support is on the way.”

In his remarks, Chairman of the 13 Joint Communities, Rotarian Afolabi Salisu, praised Hon. Oseni for his developmental strides and people-centric leadership style. He described the lawmaker as “a promise keeper” and “a true representative of the people,” commending his continued engagement with grassroots communities and dedication to inclusive governance.
